Do you ever look at your Instagram and feel deflated by comparing your life to the ones that you see online? Well that feeling is what has caused a spike in social media influencers. But are these aspiring influencers looking after their mental wellbeing, as well as receiving the free PR. Reporter Jamie Tucker speaks with two young people in and around the industry.
Reflection: This package would be really suited to a national radio newsbeat style section. I could be broadcast at any time of the day; however, the main audience would be people aged 15-24, therefore advised broadcasting times would be breakfast shows or drive time shows (outside of school hours). It is more of an educational piece, than hard hitting news, but still on an important topic. The mention of a new, but popular, influencer such as @GKBarry will attract people of that age group. Having someone fresh on the scene discuss matters such as PR will be relatable to many young adults, as they know her personality from social media already. Also having a young aspiring influencer will have a relatable impact on those who are also trying to break through the profession and are having similar feelings and emotions. Both girls are over the age of 18 therefore there are no ethical considerations to consider. Grace was happy for me to use her social media name in the package as she is a public account on all platforms. There is some discussion of mental impact, however, it’s personal views that the interviewee was happy to share. There was a slight connection jump in Graces interview, but I don’t think it’s detrimental and over all I’m very pleased with the final package.
