On Saturday November 10th I faced by biggest nightmare yet, an Escape room. Anyone who knows me well enough, will know my greatest fear is being stuck, therefore being in a locked room for an hour did not excite me in the slightest. The idea of the game is to find all the clues and unlock all the objects within the hour to find out how to escape before the timer goes off. Sounds easy right? Well the answer is simple, no.

Upon arrival I was shocked, the place just looked like a shed. A rundown, old shed in the middle of forestry. This image did not help my emotions at the time, right around this time I was really feeling very uneasy. However when you entered it was actually quite large, with some really friendly staff who were more excited for us to go in, than we were. That's when we found out our game was called 'Detonation'.

Phil, Bec and Charlie Tucker (my family)

When you are under pressure an hour really goes by fast. With a large digital clock counting down, accompanied by the atmospheric soundtrack and the heat of the room, tensions seriously start to rise rapidly. Then the panic really sets in, we need to escape!

In theory you just find the clues, unlock the padlocks and get out the room. However make sure you have a strong team, as we did not! My dad clearly was the leader, I was absolutely staying well out of his way, and my brother was so excited that he wanted to find every clue himself. We were a shambles but we did escape, with a little support from our group guide placing helpful messages on the screen.

All in all, in actually wasn't as frightening as I believed it would be, I think the fact that it wasn't dark helped. I actually enjoyed the whole experience, and I enjoyed finally escaping. I would even consider going again, as it was a laugh even if we did get a little bit stressed. The Clue HQ team were delightful, and they did such a good job at setting up the game, and guiding us through it. Absolutely worth the money and time, even if you are as scared as I was, you'll enjoy it.
