PORTFOLIO 2 - CATCHING COVID IN SCHOOL

Are schools still considered a safe environment or are they putting families at risk, throughout the second lockdown children remained attending their establishments while the cases kept rising. So, are children still considered safe from the virus? Reporter Jamie-Paige Tucker investigates…

Reflection: This package would be great for local radio such as BBC Essex and could be broadcast at any time of day. It focuses on an Essex family who have been in contact with the virus from their son’s secondary school. Although this was made during our third lockdown, these interviews were easy to get and recorded in a safe way. However, one downfall was I hadn’t considered how hard it would be to interview a 13 year old boy who had no interest in talking about his experience with the virus. However, what he lacked, was made up for by his parent. Phil was an excellent interviewee and explained the situation clearly. Ethically, I included no last names in this package as the child is under 18 and I didn’t deem it necessary to include it, even with parental permission. On the same basis, I left the schools name out of the package also. Natural sound was limited as sound from an actual school environment was not possible for obvious reasons. Overall, I’m happy with how this package came out .
